A doula is a woman who is trained to assist another woman in childbirth and to provide support for the family after the baby is born.

- positional techniques
- distraction
- verbal affirmations
- visualization techniques
- patient advocacy during labor and delivery
- emotional support to woman, spouse, and family
- breastfeeding support immediately after birth
Services of a postpartum doula:
- extended breastfeeding support
- newborn care and parent education
- older sibling care and family adjustment support
- healthy meal prep
- cleaning/sanitizing of bottles and pump parts
- light housework (laundry, vacuuming, dishes etc.)
- nursery organization
