A doula is a woman who is trained to assist another woman in childbirth and to provide support for the family after the baby is born. 

Services of a birth doula:

  • prenatal education
  • labor comfort measures including:
    • touch/massage
    • breathing techniques
    • positional techniques
    • distraction
    • verbal affirmations
    • visualization techniques
  • patient advocacy during labor and delivery
  • emotional support to woman, spouse, and family
  • breastfeeding support immediately after birth

 

Services of a postpartum doula:

  • extended breastfeeding support
  • newborn care and parent education
  • older sibling care and family adjustment support
  • healthy meal prep
  • cleaning/sanitizing of bottles and pump parts
  • light housework (laundry, vacuuming, dishes etc.)
  • nursery organization
